A tiny (but surprisingly powerful) brushed DC motor with a metal gearbox, with the motor mounted perpendicular to the axle. Great for attaching to the sides of buggies or robots!

Compared to the wHat, the update-time is a bit long (5-6 secs vs 3 secs). But still much faster than with color e-inks. So it is a good compromise.

Super cool. Make sure you follow all of the setup steps or else it probably won't work. I had a lot of random packages to install so the setup took a little while. It says it takes 15 seconds to refresh -- in my experience it's closer to 18 but the point is they're definitely not exaggerating the refresh time.

Perfect little e-ink screen. It is a bit slower in refreshing than black/white version, but for my project the reds are absolutely worth it. Love it!

Works really well, easy to set up and the colours are surprisingly vibrant for a display which doesn't emmit light. Can wait to plug it into my next project

Very good, once you work out some of the quirks involved :) The biggest tip I can offer is that the "AUTO" type detect didn't work at all, and I had to use "--type ssd1608" to make it do anything at all. Documentation could be improved, hence 4*, but the actual display is excellent. The BLACK display updates in about 2 seconds, but the other coloured ones apparently take ~15 seconds, even if you're only using the black ink. Order accordingly!

This is a fun little board. I don't even have a project planned for it I just wanted to play around with it and I'll figure out something afterwards. The online documentation is fairly clear so it makes a fun project that doesn't need a high skill level to use it.

Great product, does what it says and great python library overall. I removed one star because the refresh process and blinking/flashing is a major constraint that prevents using the screen for many purposes. An option in the python library to adapt the behavior would be great.

The product is working as expected. Nice display for the Raspberry Pi. The slow refresh rate is in the nature of any e-paper display.

This is great for prototyping projects needing a display, or where there isn't a requirement for fast refreshes, e.g. every second. There's really good support and the python library seems very powerful.

This is easy and fun to program. I use it for my home pihole to does stats and updates every ten minutes. High contrast, still readable in sunlight on the table next to the window. I'll eventually build a fancy box for it, but it's just a hat for now.

Fits a Raspberry PI Zero perfectly and has a suite of libraries that work out the box. Takes about 15 seconds to do a full "render" of an image with colour.

This little display is a perfect addition to the raspberry pi zero. I'm amazed with the image quality it offers. The setup is fairly straightforward and to be done without any further insights in coding. The documentation is really useful. I'm using it do display regularly updated weather information. The little display just looks gorgeous in the sun.

The Inky pHAT has been EXACTLY what I was looking for-- an easy to learn and use, high quality e-ink display. My current project is to set up an "on a call status" while I work from home and my kids do school. I already have plans to add 2 or 3 more for similar tasks.

I was able in a few hours to program this device as a readout to my temperature/air quality sensor. The device updates (monochrome) in 2-3 seconds, and the provided example code was a good basis for my readout. Its power consumption is minimal - the Pi Zero W to which it is attached runs all day from a 5000mAh battery pack. I'm very pleased with this device, and would definitely recommend it. Even during lockdown it arrived the day after I ordered it, there are some good examples so it is displaying something within an hour of unpacking, after which it's down to the imagination of the programmer. NB, you must have a GPIO header on your Pi - recommend Pimoroni's Pi Zero with a pre-soldered header.

It's pretty great, though the yellow could be a bit nicer yellow and not so mustard-colored. I really feel like I'll just use it in B&W mode most of the time because the refresh rate is faster. That being said, there are cheaper alternatives out there that do partial refresh, which is a huge improvement over this.

The inky phat is an utterly beautiful display. Ink “pops” and looks like print. Fantastic value and very useful. Only for applications where the image updates infrequently. I’m using it as a electricity smart tariff rate display.

Very good refresh times, works out of the box, and the cleaning script to get rid of ghosting works as expected. Using it for a pi-hole summary, updating every 30mn. I used a Booster Header to install it on top of a fanshim.

Great product with a very good software library. The code in the software library can be used as a basis for your own routines. I have used in a script to pull down events from my Goodle Calender (https://github.com/emomonkey/pimorini_inkygooglecalendar) and display it in the Raspberry PI. Hardware wise it is robust though it does seem to sit quick high on the pins on my Raspberry PI so it can wobble off quick easily.

This is adorable! Bought it to use as a mini display of sorts as I start to tinker with the Pi. The included examples in the Github repo are really good at helping you understand what you can do. I expect to be back for the pHAT's big brother in red before too long!

Great product. Now I want to design/build a corresponding power source that fits nicely with the casing (snapon or somesuch). Searched Thingiverse, didn't find anything quite appropriate, may go to TinkerCAD or OpenSCAD to develop a "battery pack" of some sort, most likely for a LIPO battery.

Awesome little eInk display that is very compact, and fits snug with the PiBow case to make a great little mini monitor. The colour eInk display is a great feature, and the brilliant library makes it super easy to build projects with. The only gripe would be the refresh time of about 15 s to update the screen. Would have been nicer if it was faster, but this is probably already a big step forward for eInk displays anyways. Maybe in the next iteration!

A decent phat, well packaged and with a good python library and examples to get it up and running quickly. The “yellow” is perhaps more a brown than a yellow; maybe the driver brings the black up a little much as it’s making its final pass, leaving it slightly dark. Otherwise this is ideal for an unobtrusive display and a breeze to get started.

This is an excellent screen for your projects. I purchased both the red and yellow screens. They are very easy to get up and running and Pimoroni provide some great example python scripts for you to try. I simply love these.

The inky phat is the best screen for the pi 0. I use it for many project. Dynamic badge, weather station for my kid, ... Very resistant, high quality, I was surprised by the refresh (5 sec for a all screen refresh) but it stays for one year out of battery. A must have.

This is a great screen. Have only used the examples provided on the website but it's so hypnotic watching the screen pulse and the images slowly appear. I've got the normal papirus phat too and this is my fave.
